Activities: Briefing policy makers to ensure an improved understanding of the need for key features within the food law (in terms of future EU market access, and functionality of a food safety system); Reviewing the Draft Food Law and advising on required adjustments to ensure compliance with international/EU requirements (following these
adjustments the Food Law was passed in December 2005); Advice on harmonisation of other laws with the Food Law. This involved
advice on modifications required to the Law on Licences and Permits,
the Veterinary Law and Public Health Law; Support to the translation into Georgian language of key elements of the EU acquis communautaire in relation to food safety and provision of advice on the approach and content of the Technical Regulations being developed, the focus being on orderly approximation in logical and achievable steps; assistance with the revision of Animal Health Legislation covering three main areas: animal health controls, regulation of veterinary drugs and the veterinary profession.
